How to keep a Dogo
and purchasing one.
The Dogo must be there where his boss is.
This is definately so for a Dogo, there are very close to
the owner. If people say that in Argentina the way of
taking care of a Dogo is not such a serious business I
don't agree with this. The good
owners/breeders (the responsible ones) take good care of
their Dogos as we do.There are all over the world animal
unfriendly situations also among the people from Europe
and the rest of the rich countries; each summer again
dogs are trown out of cars or tied to trees if they want
to go
on a holliday.......
As a matter of fact a Dogo is not a dog for constant
living in a kennel. He needs lots of action such as going
out with the bike and the dog or taking him out for a
long walking trip, he needs the excercise! He also needs
lots of affection and attention of the boss and family. A
kennel may be a solution for the dog for at least some
hours of the day at most, if neccesary. He can be kept in
a small house if is guaranteed that he gets regular
excercise! In the house he needs a basket to lie in a bit
place from the ground free of draft. If the house has to
be guarded it is best to give the
dog free access in every room,so keep all doors open. Is
he kept in a kennel, it should be dry and warm , with a
box in it for the night. He needs enough room. His coat
needs only little attention, because he has a clean, short
coat. He needs to be washed only wenn he is really dirty
or taken to a dogshow.
A Dogo is resistant
to all kinds of climates. Only the transparant Toe-nails
needs special attention because they break easily, so
keep them short. For dogs with a white coat it is quite
common they have sometimes a skinproblem which normally
can be healed with Homeopatic medicines. For feeding it
is best to give a complete professional dry food for the
larger breeds. Do not over feed!!
If you want to buy a puppy it is good to look at several
breeders to make a good choice. Look how the dogs and
litter are taken care of and ask as much information as
wanted and ask for the medical documents of the father
and the mother of the puppies, such as hipdysplasia
results, character test, if the parents are allowed for
breeding according to the club rules etc.
If it is a really serious breeder he will show you the
results of the officiale BEAR-hearingtest of the
parents, grand parents and litter!! This is neccesary
because we are dealing with a white dog and need by this
way the deafnessproblem to be banned out are at least
controlled at an acceptable level, but there is a lot of
work to do in this matter! It it sorry for me to say that
only a few breeders take this matter serious and are
afraid to look this problem in the face. The deafness
occurs unilateral (one ear) and bilateral (both ears).
More about this subject will be on my site later.
